Summary:.
Narra a passagem para a maturidade das irmãs March-Alcott no século 19. Enquanto o pai combate na guerra, a mãe e as quatro filhas enfrentam a fome e o frio. O filme baseia-se em grande parte na figura de Jo, a segunda irmã, talentosa, de temperamento forte e escritora amadora. Ela revira a casa com a montagem das suas peças onde é, ao mesmo tempo, autora, directora e atriz, juntamente com as irmãs.
