Summary:.
Policiais sempre foram os ídolos de Freddy Heflin. Devido ao fato de ele ser surdo, Heflin jamais conseguiu passar no exame físico para ser um oficial da polícia. Entretanto, devido à sua natureza amigável e simpática, ele consegue se eleger xerife de um pequeno município de New Jersey, onde moram muitos policiais de Nova York. Tudo está indo muito bem, até que Mo Tilden chega na cidade. Ele é um investigador de polícia de Nova York que está trabalhando num caso de corrupção dentro da polícia. Suas investigações o levam até o pequeno município, chamando a atenção de Heflin. Quando o xerife começa a ajudar o investigador a desvendar o esquema de corrupção, acaba descobrindo que alguns de seus heróis podem estar envolvidos.
